Acura's best-selling sport sedan was overhauled for 2009, when it received new exterior styling, a base 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine and the addition of a Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive model with a 305-hp, 3.7-liter V-6.
New for 2010 The TL adds a manual transmission, which is a new six-speed unit that Acura says is 110 pounds lighter than a standard five-speed automatic to benefit acceleration, braking and cornering.
Completely overhauled for 2009, Acura's best-selling sports sedan now comes with a new 280-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine and is newly available with Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive. The model also receives an exterior redesign and an interior face-lift, as well as voice activation for many features.
New for 2009 New engine options with more horsepower, all-wheel drive, new exterior design, new cabin and available voice-activated integration for navigation system.
Updated significantly for 2007, Acura's best-selling sports
sedan changes little in 2008. The base TL comes with a 258-horsepower, 3.2-liter
V-6 engine, and the performance-oriented Type-S edition has a 286-hp, 3.5-liter
V-6. The TL retains its front-wheel-drive status, even as more than half of
Acura's models now feature Super Handling All-Wheel Drive.
The 2008
model's changes include new paint colors and interior/exterior color
combinations and an updated immobilizer security system. Acura also offers its
navigation system in Hawaii and notes that the real-time traffic feature has
spread to almost twice as many metropolitan areas for 2008, making a total of
76.
Acura's bestselling sports sedan receives a midcycle makeover
for 2007. The performance-oriented Type-S edition ? dormant on the TL for three
years ? returns, adopting the automaker's 3.5-liter V-6 to make 286 horsepower,
a 28-hp increase over the base model, which uses a 3.2-liter V-6. The TL retains
its front-wheel-drive status, however, rebuffing early hopes that the Type-S
might include Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive.
Acura dramatically
redesigned the TL for 2004, promising greater performance and sportier handling.
A standard V-6 worked with either a five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual
transmission; the latter has been dropped in the base model but is available in
the TL Type-S.
Honda's luxury division launched the TL as a 1996 model.
Produced in Marysville, Ohio, the TL competes with such sedans as the BMW 3
Series and Infiniti G35.
Acura dramatically redesigned its midsize luxury performance sedan for 2004 and promised greater performance and sportier handling. A more powerful 3.2-liter V-6 worked with either a five-speed Sequential SportShift automatic transmission or a close-ratio six-speed-manual gearbox. Among other improvements, the 2004 TL offered the first application of DVD Audio 5.1 surround sound, as well as HandsFreeLink wireless phone capability and XM Satellite Radio. Except for two new body colors and a newly standard tire-pressure-monitoring system, little has changed for the 2006 model year. A revised engine management system and steering-angle sensor logic are intended to reduce torque steer. The TL has been Acura's top-selling model. Honda's luxury division first launched the front-wheel-drive TL as a 1996 model. Produced in Marysville, Ohio, the TL competes with such sedans as the BMW 3 Series and Lexus ES 330. Current sedans come only in one trim level, but an A-Spec sport suspension is available.
